Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD Board Calls School Bond Election for May 2026

At a special meeting on February 9, 2026, the Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to call a school bond election for Saturday, May 2, 2026. The proposed $45 million bond package addresses needs identified in a comprehensive districtwide facilities assessment, including aging infrastructure, elementary capacity constraints, and campus safety improvements.

Facility Challenges

The district’s two elementary campuses — West Elementary (PK–2, built in the 1950s with 1970s additions) and South Elementary (3–5, built in the 1950s with 2000s additions) — face significant issues:

1. South Elementary at 100% capacity and West at 82%
2.
Aging building systems, undersized classrooms, and asbestos in older materials
3.
Lack of secure entry vestibules districtwide

If approved, the bond would fund: 

1. A new PK–5 elementary school to replace the existing two campuses.
2. Security vestibules at the junior high and high school 
3. Demolition of the current elementary buildings (retaining South Elementary’s library wing for repurposing)
4. Additional high school parking for improved access and safety

Long-Term Benefits

The proposal delivers modern, code-compliant facilities with updated infrastructure to support instruction, operations, and enhanced safety — including secure entries at all campuses.

Financial Impact

The estimated tax rate impact is $0.38 per $100 of property value on the Interest & Sinking (I&S) rate. More information regarding the estimated financial impact to District taxpayers will be provided in advance of the election. An online tax calculator will be available on the district website, allowing homeowners to enter their property value and see an estimated impact. Note for Seniors: Texas law provides a complete homestead exemption from school district I&S taxes for homeowners aged 65 and older. Qualifying residents would not see an increase in school taxes from this bond if approved.
