We continue our Principal of the Month celebration with this week's Principal of the Week

Mrs. Stephanie Duke

  • Where were you born?

    Naples, TX

Educational  Philosophy

I believe that each student is a unique individual who deserves every opportunity to be successful. It is the school’s responsibility to provide a rigorous and meaningful education that meets each student’s academic and social-emotional needs. All students can learn when given the proper support, care, and encouragement. I also believe that building strong relationships and creating a safe, nurturing environment are essential. Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

  • Someone that was an inspiration in your life?

My grandmother, whom I called “Ninny,” was my hero and my very best friend. She grew up very poor and didn’t have the opportunity to attend school regularly even as a very young child. She completed only up to the eighth grade of school before having to quit altogether due to having to work alongside her family in the fields during planting and harvest seasons and help take care of her younger siblings. Despite the challenges she faced, she dreamed of a better life for me and made countless sacrifices to invest in my education. Because of her dreams and love for me, I became the first college graduate in our family. I owe that achievement and so much more to my beautiful grandmother.

  • Your favorite thing about DLS ISD?

My favorite thing about DLSISD is the strong sense of family. Many of the students I have on my campus now are ones I’ve known since their elementary days at South, where I worked with them before transitioning to Jr. High. Watching them grow and continue their journey has been such a joy. I truly love my students and my work family. They make DLSISD feel like home.

  • What is something that you enjoy doing on weekends/time off?

During my time off, I enjoy being with my family, particularly my two precious granddaughters, Everley and Jovie. They bring endless joy and remind me of what truly matters most in my life.

  • How long have you worked in the district?

This is my 6th year at DLSISD, and my 23rd year in education.
