Jr High Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Linda Rhymes for winning Junior High's 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year Award!

"I am very humble and appreciative to have been selected Teacher of the Year by my colleagues at the Daingerfield Junior High School.

I am a 1974 graduate of Daingerfield High School. I received my undergraduate studies from Texas Woman's University with a BS in Education, Specialization in Special Education (Mental Retardation) and a minor in History. My education career did not stop, I completed my Master's Program in Education at Stephen F. Austin State University and in 1990 completed a second Master's Program in Mid Management Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. I have spent many hours in educational workshops in the forty-two years of my career.

I have taught at every level of education. I was employed at Northeast Texas Community College from 1985 to 1994 teaching GED, ABE, ESL and History.

I have spent twenty-two years teaching on all levels and twenty years in administration.

My philosophy or belief of education is that every child regardless of his or her disability or disabilities should have the right to learn and receive a quality education. In my 22 years of teaching (all served in Daingerfield with the exception of two in Midland, Texas), and 20 years in administration in the Daingerfield Lone Star ISD. I have been able to largely impact others as well as learn from them on how to teach and manage individuals to meet their needs.

My #1 tool for student success is the Power of Expectation for teachers and students- I expect the students to attend class, pay attention (3 L's-Look, Listen and Learn) and participate; expect teachers to teach all students at their best everyday. Model the desired behavior or performance expected by teachers and students. My # 2 tool is Good Communication which is essential, and #3 Students need Assurance that the teacher cares. It takes patience, commitment and time to educate students that do not learn at the same rate. As a teacher, I have had to create different methods and strategies to reach the learning styles of my students. All students should be made to feel comfortable in the classroom, have an opportunity to learn, and be motivated to reach their fullest potential. The educational setting with the students is my second family. I have the same love, compassion and dedication for them, as I have for my own family.

I am so humble and grateful for the opportunity to teach and to have served as an administrator for the Daingerfield Lone Star ISD." - Linda Rhymes
