Counselor's Corner

I am a professional school counselor and I love my job at DJHS. I am looking forward to another year of “preparing students for life”. I am on campus full time to provide students with a comprehensive, developmental guidance program and to provide counseling services to meet the needs of all students. There are four components of the Developmental School Guidance and Counseling Program. They are:
  1. Guidance Curriculum which provides guidance content to all students for the purpose of awareness, skill development, and application of basic life skills.
  2. Responsive Services which address the immediate concerns of students for the purpose of prevention and intervention.
  3. Individual Planning which assists students in monitoring and understanding their own development for the purpose of making plans and setting goals.
  4. System Support which includes program and staff support activities and services for the purpose of delivering and supporting programs.

I provide classroom guidance on the subjects of being successful at DJH, goal setting, study skills, and bullying issues including cyber-bullying. I also provide group guidance on post-secondary education, financial aid and career exploration.

I provide individual counseling as well as small group counseling for students as the need arises. These may include, but are not limited to, anger management group, grief group, and self-injury group. Each of the small, confidential support groups are conducted for 20 minutes two days a week for four to six weeks during Tiger Period. Students may refer themselves for individual counseling or they may be referred by parents, teachers, friends, or other school staff. I am also available for parent conferences regarding your child’s test scores, academic progress, or personal development. Please contact me if I can help in any way.
