Although the Texas National Heritage Bank was the last spelling team standing. The real winners are the teachers and students of the district because the funds raised will be used for grants to teachers this spring. In the last twelve years, the Daingerfield-Lone Star Education Foundation has been able to approve grants totaling $115,000.
There were nine spelling teams in all. The teams from the school district were: West Elementary--The Things made up of Patty Bilderback, Pam Curry, and Lesia Lewis; South Elementary--The Punktuators made up of Suzanne Jordan, Judy Walker, and Daniel Pritchett; Junior High--Team Spell Right made up of Danny Carey, Brandon Darden, and Amy Billingslea; and High School--No Name City made up of George Steenborg, Bobby Alford, and Jeremy Mitchell. The High School team which is also the Science Department finished second overall. Thank you to all the spellers. Without spellers, there would be no grants.
